Chap 17, problems 9 - 11

Problems from SV8 Section 17.6. The language of #10 (Problem 17.36) is a bit ambiguous. Part b should say, "What percentage of the power generated by the power station does this loss represent."

For # 11, part b: I am using this equation: T = T₀ + (R/R₀ - 1)/α. Web assign is telling me that the temperature is within the 10% but I don't know how to get it . Are we supposed to round it off to the nearest 100th?

The equation you wrote is correct, and WebAssign will accept your answer if it is within 1% of the correct value. Your mistake is probably somewhere in your algebra or arithmetic, but if you don't show me what you've done, I can't find the error.

I had the same problem, and I solved it by removing two zeros.

e.g. 0.0000005 => 0.00005

If that solves your problem, great, but it won't help you on a test. I advise you to visit the help room or office hours to figure out what you did wrong. That's what I plan on doing.

Thank you. I was subtracting instead of adding and I definitely plan on visiting the help room.
