For each homework question and lab report we will make a post, this will probably contain a few tips on what the problems are about and how to solve them. If you are stuck on something then instead of emailing us directly you should post a comment in reply to the relevant post. We will try to guide you through tough points and help you understand the problems and the concepts behind them.
For Problem 8, to understand the geometry/layout of the "mass spectrometer" mentioned in the problem, look at Example 19.6 on p. 641 of SV8. Fig. 19.22 shows the pictorial layout of the mass spectrometer, and the example problem is very similar to Problem 38.
Problem 38 refers to the number of the problem at the end of SV8 Chap. 19. WebAssign Problem 8 for Ch. 19 HW is based on this problem 38. Also see my other post about WebAssign problem numbers vs. SV8 problem numbers.
